Jay Soriano

Personal Trainer in Maui

Personal Trainer in Maui specializing in Powerlifting, Bodybuilding and Boxing/Kickboxing.

My name is Jay Soriano and I’m not your average personal trainer.

You see, the fitness industry is full of snake oil and charlatans, a multi-billion dollar industry preying on individuals with 6-week challenges and weight loss supplements.

Fitness is a lifestyle, and if you want sustainable changes you’ll have to make fitness fun for you. Not something you have to do, but something you want to do.

My Before/After

My Approach to Personal Training

I’ve made a hobby of interpreting and applying the latest training and nutrition research. I spend a lot of my free time listening to Stronger By Science, and Iron Culture, podcasts by natural athletes dedicated to the latest research in strength, nutrition and hypertrophy.

My biggest mistake when I started was I listened to Men’s Fitness magazine, following workout programs from people who are gifted genetically, or were using PEDs.

I was skinny fat. I have a family history of diabetes. A slower metabolism. But I was able to find the diet and programming that could help me work through that, and I want to do the same for other people. I offer personal training to your everyday average person.

Are you exercising or are you training? There’s an important distinction between the two. Training has a goal in mind, whether it’s strength, or body composition you should be striving towards a goal.

Strength training is an important part of my programming for all of my clients. I referenced many studies in my blog post on How Does Strength Training Improve Body Composition?

If you’re anything like me, you hate running.

I found another form of cardio in boxing and kickboxing, and it’s one of the funnest ways to get into shape and burn calories.

I’ll teach you the basics and hold pads for you.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, described it perfectly:

“You don’t really see a muscle as part of you. In a way, you see it as a thing. You look at it as a thing and you say well this thing has to be built a little longer. The bicep has to be longer, of the tricep has to be thicker… Like a sculpture. Then after looking at it a sculptor goes in with his thing and works a little bit, and you do a few extra forced reps to build. You form it. Just like a sculpture.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! As a mobile personal trainer in Las Vegas (located near IKEA), I can travel to you, or we can work out of my gym.

While I don’t consider myself a nutritionist, I’ve spent years doing the ketogenic diet and variations of it. I would recommend it for clients that have high A1C’s, as there has been a lot of research showing its effectiveness in preventing diabetes.

Otherwise, I’ll suggest calories and macros according to your goals.

Yes, please view the pricing table above. Las Vegas Personal Training Sessions are limited to two people (perfect for couples), and 1-hour sessions are $70.

Absolutely! There have been many studies showing the benefits of resistance training in the elderly. Of course, we’ll tailor the programming accordingly to fit your needs. As a mobile personal trainer in Maui, I can travel to you or conduct a live session via Zoom.

It depends on your fitness level and fitness goals, but overall it’s less of a boot camp type class, and more focused on technique. We’ll certainly work to burn calories, but whether it’s weight lifting, or boxing, I want your technique to be proficient. Thus reducing the chance of injury and let’s be honest – you’d look kinda silly with poor form. 🙂

My approach is based on building a healthy lifestyle that’s sustainable. You’re in it for the long run, so I want to give you the tools to succeed.

Offering a mobile personal training service, I have equipment that is compact, yet efficient. A lot of it coming from my experience with strength training and CrossFit. Some examples are:

  • Kettlebells or Dumbbells
  • Focus Mitts and Pads for Kickboxing and Boxing

As you become more advanced, and if you develop a passion for powerlifting, we can train at a local fitness center or gym in Las Vegas (EOS, etc.) with some caveats (most gyms do not allow this but talk to me and we can discuss).

First off, it’s great that you’re keeping up your physical fitness when you’re traveling!

I do offer live sessions via Zoom, but I can also program a workout for you to do yourself as well.

Classpass is also a great option for when traveling, it offers a flexible gym membership to various gyms, fitness classes, yoga, aerobic, cardio, etc. See my ClassPass Review here.

Of course, there’s always an exercise that works for you! Health and wellness is a lifestyle and I’ll work with you to find a fitness and nutrition program that works for you.

*If you’re currently in physical therapy, I can work with you/them to find exercises that work for you.
